Practice how to simplify fractions before multiplying with this worksheet.
Multiplying Fractions Worksheet
Are your students learning how to multiply fractions? They may have learned a few ways to approach problems such as these. Students may multiply and then simplify the answer, or they may tackle these problems a bit differently. This worksheet focuses on simplifying fractional factors before multiplying. This is often helpful because the students then are working with smaller numbers, which may be easier for computation.
With this worksheet, students will solve 8 questions where they must simplify each fractional factor before multiplying. Additionally, students will solve two word problems to reinforce this skill. Students may need to simplify both numerators and denominators or just one set.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:
- Guided math groups
- Lesson warm-up
- Lesson wrap-up
- Fast finishers
- Homework assignment
- Whole-class review (via smartboard)
If there are students who need an additional challenge, have them create their own problems and solve them. They can then work backward by writing a word problem to match their equation.
For students who need a bit of support, provide students with a multiplication chart to help with basic facts. Additionally, this activity can be completed in a small group or 1-on-1 setting.
