Snake Your Way through These Hundreds Boards

“Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?” 🐍

Indiana Jones wouldn’t like this math game, but your students will!

As an interactive activity, students click and drag the numbered snakes and ladders onto the board to complete the hundreds chart. As a hands-on activity, students cut out the numbered snakes and ladders and place them onto the board in the correct positions.

Once their board is complete, students use the instructions card to play a game of Snakes and Ladders!

Please note that these boards may look different to other hundreds charts students have previously studied because the numbers begin from the bottom of the chart and increase as they go up. Additionally, some cutouts may overlap each other.

There are three boards for students to choose from: missing a few numbers, mostly blank, and filled in 1–100.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your counting to 100 lessons

We’ve designed this activity with differentiated versions to accommodate individual students’ abilities:

  • Above Level: mostly blank
  • At Level: mostly filled in (30 missing numbers)
  • Below-Level: filled in 1–100.

In addition to individual student work time, use this counting game to enhance learning through your math rotations, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need additional support with number recognition by assigning the mostly-filled or completely-filled boards.

Additionally, provide access to hundreds charts, posters, desk plates, and anchor charts to help students recall past lessons.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Provide students with the minimally-numbered board. Students can also practice skip counting by 2’s or 5’s, meaning they can only move if they roll a 2 or a 5.

🧑‍🏫 Group Lesson

Project one of the included hundreds boards using your interactive whiteboard. Use choral response or call on students to put the numbered sections into place. Provide students with a printed version of the same board to fill in by hand.
