🏃♀️ Get Moving with this Story Elements Activity
We all know the importance of getting kids moving! And when you’re looking for the perfect lesson hook for your story elements lessons – then this fun, engaging and active Story Elements activity is exactly what you need. Each slide includes an image in the middle and the option to go to the character corner, setting corner, problem corner or solution corner. How you set this up in your classroom is up to you.
Here are some suggestions:
- Get students active and use the cut out numbers in this download and stick them in each corner of the room. Please note, the colors on the numbers represent the color of the four options that will be shown on the slides.
- Set up the students with a recording sheet or white boards that they can use to show their responses.
- Incorporate a group discussion: After each round, gather students to share their thoughts on why they chose a particular corner and how it relates to the story elements.
How to Play Four Corners
- Introduce the Activity: Explain the four story elements (character, setting, problem, solution) and what each corner represents.
- Display the Slide: Show the slide with the image and prompt students to think about which corner it belongs to.
- Choose a Corner: On your signal, have students move to the corner that they believe corresponds to the image displayed.
- Discuss and Record: Once in their corners, students can discuss their choices with peers and use their recording sheets or whiteboards to jot down their thoughts.
- Rotate and Repeat: After each round, bring everyone back to the centre, reveal the correct answer, and rotate to a new slide for more fun!
