Subordinating Conjunctions Worksheet

As we know, subordinating conjunctions are words that connect a subordinate (dependent) clause to a main (independent) clause in a sentence. These conjunctions introduce adverbial phrases, which provide additional information about the main clause. The subordinate clause cannot stand alone as a complete sentence and relies on the main clause for its meaning.

In this worksheet activity, students will practice identifying and constructing sentences using subordinating conjunctions by completing the prompts.

The subordinating conjunctions included in this worksheet are:

  • After
  • While
  • Until
  • Even though
  • If
  • Unless
  • Whenever
  • Since

Students are provided with the list of subordinate conjunctions and must select the appropriate one to complete a given sentence. There are eight sentences.

An answer key is also included to simplify grading, or allow students to self-check their work.
