Show your students how plants, animals and humans need soil to survive with this set of three informative classroom posters to accompany your science lessons.
Healthy Soil, Healthy Life!
Soil may seem like a rather unexciting topic to some, but the fact is, soil is essential to all life on Earth! Soil provides a habitat to many of our planet’s tiniest creatures, transfers nutrients into the roots of plants, and sustains human life through crops, fibers and building materials. Boring as it might seem, the role that soil plays in the ecosystem is anything but!
This set of three classroom posters has been designed by our dedicated team to help you teach your students about the role that soil plays in supporting and sustaining plants, animals and humans. Each poster contains factual information about how soil is more than just dirt!
A brief overview of the content of each poster is outlined below.
- A Hidden Haven for Animals – Soil is a bustling ecosystem where animals find food, shelter and a place to raise their young.
- The Root of Plant Life – Soil is the foundation upon which plants grow, thrive and contribute to the entire ecosystem.
- Our Silent Sustainer – Soil is a foundation for human life, providing sustenance and support.
This set of classroom posters downloads as a full-color PDF or an editable Google Slides file.
This resource would make a great addition to your class bulletin board during your science unit on soil. Healthy soil really does equate to healthy life on Earth!
Maximize Your Use of These Soil Posters
While these posters will look wonderful displayed on your classroom wall, their versatility extends far beyond a mere classroom display! Use these soil posters to enhance your students’ learning through whole-class lessons or small-group activities.
Whole-Class Discussion
Display the posters in turn on your interactive whiteboard. Use guiding questions to explore how each organism is dependent on soil. Explore the interconnectivity of the organism and the soil by asking students to predict what might happen if the quality of the soil was compromised.
Small-Group Activity
Divide the class into groups and provide each group with a different poster (you may need to use each poster more than once). Have the students work together to write an explanation of how the organism they have been given depends on soil for its survival. Have the students take turns to share their presentations with the class.
Download These Soil Posters for Your Classroom
