Teaching the War of 1812? Struggling to Find Resources?
You are not alone. After a quick poll, all upper elementary Teach Starter team members agreed that U.S. History is one of the hardest subjects to teach due to limited resources. Teachers struggle with finding them, and when the district provides them, it’s often found that upper elementary Social Studies texts aren’t written at an appropriate readability level.
That’s where we come in! We’ve compiled a string of resources to help you plan your lessons when covering the events and outcomes of the War of 1812. This printable mini-book is the perfect tool for an introductory reading activity or as a whole-group shared reading opportunity. This book is handy in the classroom because it is written in kid-friendly language and provides multiple opportunities for students to summarize their understanding through multiple choice, written answer, and constructed response questions.
Paper-Saving Printable Books for 4th and 5th Graders
This mini-book is formatted to save paper use in the classroom. Each booklet is designed to be printed two-sided and flipped on the long edge. This way, the pages line up like a normal book, using half the paper!
