Is it True or is it False? Mass Sorting Activity
This printable sorting activity has been created by a teacher for students to practice their knowledge of mass. Students will read through different mass related statements and then decide if they are true or false. Here’s a selection of some of the statements:
- A camera has a mass of 386 kg.
- A kiwi has a mass of 900 g.
- A teapot has a mass of 800 kg.
How to use this sorting resource:
- Cut apart the sorting cards and heading carts – it is recommended that you laminate this resource for durability.
- Read each statement. Determine if it is true or false.
- Place the card under the correct header.
- Use the answer key provided to check work.
How to Use Sorting Cards in Other Ways in the Classroom
Apart from the simple yet effective sorting activity described above, there are other ways you can use these cards in the classroom, here are some suggestions from one of our in-house teachers:
- For a more active activity, place the cards around the classroom and have students put post it notes on all the false or all the true statements.
- Use each statement as a warm up for the week. Each morning ask the whole class if they think the statement is true or false and get them to engage in a class discussion about why they think this way.
- Put a sign on one side of the classroom with the word ‘true’ and another sign with the word ‘false’, then read out each statement and have the students move to the sign that they believe is correct for that statement.
