Exploring Materials With Early Learners
Introducing young learners to the world of materials is an exciting opportunity to ignite curiosity and foster scientific thinking. By exploring the different properties of everyday objects, students not only develop a deeper understanding of the world around them but also learn to think critically about how and why different materials are used in specific ways.
This engaging resource is designed to support your teaching of Properties of Materials. Students will explore and classify materials based on their properties and suitability for different purposes. Using this hands-on activity, students will investigate objects made from different materials, considering factors like strength, flexibility, and durability.
Preparing This Resource
This resource can be used independently as a cut-and-paste worksheet-style activity, or it can be prepared as a game for use in a learning center. To use it as a learning center, prepare the activity by doing the following:
- Cut out the tiles and laminate them.
- Print out the sorting templates and laminate them.
- Using a dry erase marker, students will write the material each object is made of in the column beside it. They decide the best use for each object and place the appropriate tile in the final column.
