Inspire students to think and write about veterans with a printable set of Veterans Day Worksheets.
Why Do We Celebrate Veterans Day?
Originally known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day was established after World War I ended. It was first marked on November 11, 1918, to celebrate the soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives during the war. In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day, and it was extended to honor all veterans, not just those who served in World War I, and to express appreciation for protecting our freedom and peace. Every year on November 11th, we commemorate the brave men and women who served in the U.S. military.
This year, inspire your students to learn more about the Veterans they know and love around the community. This printable set of worksheets will help your students find out the answers to their questions about the military and more. With a pair of worksheets that focus on different aspects of veterans’ lives, you can inspire your students to get to know a veteran and reflect on their sacrifices.
Get to Know a Veteran with Printable Veterans Day Activities
The set of worksheets includes:
- Interview a Veteran Activity
For this meaningful Veterans Day assignment, students will connect with and honor the heroes who have served our country. The task is to interview a veteran, either a family member, neighbor, or someone from a local veterans’ organization. By conducting a one-on-one interview, kids can gain a deeper understanding of the experiences and sacrifices made by these remarkable individuals. They can ask questions about the veteran’s service, their memories, and the effect it has had on their life.
- We Will Always Remember (Veterans Day Writing Prompt Reflection)
This reflective assignment is best completed after interview a veteran activity. It gives students the opportunity to look back on what they learned in their interview and write about what it means to them.
