Let’s Learn About Cold Weather Animals and Their Survival Strategies!

Have you ever wondered how the Arctic fox, with its tiny body, short furry legs, and adorable features, can survive the harshest temperatures in the world? It doesn’t seem possible, even as an adult. Can you imagine how mind-blowing it will be when your students discover some birds fly thousands of miles, insects that hide under the snow, and arctic wolves that just hang out in the cold all winter? This year, the Teach Starter team is ready to help you amaze your students with cold-weather animal facts and resources to help you teach them about the survival strategies of hibernation, adaptation, and migration!

Discover What Animals Migrate in the Winter, Hibernate or Adapt!

This printable learning center is the perfect way to introduce your students to animals that live in the snow and go to great lengths to ensure their winter survival. With this printable science activity, students will look at images of different animals and identify them. Then, they will sort those animals into three categories based on whether they think they hibernate, migrate, or adapt. Once sorted, they will record their findings on their recording sheet and use the enclosed key to check their work.

List of Animals That Hibernate, Adapt, or Migrate

This resource download includes 27 animal cards for your students to sort into three categories. Students will sort the following animals based on whether they migrate, hibernate or adapt.

bear  raccoon frog snake groundhog monarch wildebeest
