Most elementary grade teachers agree that teaching imaginative writing in the classroom can be both enjoyable and challenging. It allows students to create and develop their own characters and immerse them in thrilling adventures. However, instructing students in the art of imaginative writing can be tough. Once they have a basic understanding of the parts of a story, they must also be guided through the rules of writing dialogue, which requires dedicated practice to master.

This worksheet is designed to accompany or Writing Out Loud – Dialogue Teaching Presentation. The skills and concepts covered are

  • placing quotation marks,
  • how commas and other punctuation marks work with dialogue,
  • when to use capitalization in dialogue,
  • how to write breaks in dialogue,
  • how to format dialogue in a story,
  • how to write two characters talking at once.

This worksheet provides students with multiple opportunities to correct dialogue in text. .

Through this activity, students will show improvement in their ability to include and edit dialogue in their writing
