A set of labels and prompts to create a writing prompt jar.
Writing to a Prompt
We know that writing to prompts is a necessary skill, but that doesn’t make it any easier to teach! This skill will follow students through their entire school career, so early exposure is key. Create a writing jar in your classroom with this cut and assemble kit!
How can I use this resource?
- Put the jar into a writing center for students to work on writing to a prompt.
- Use the jar in a writer’s workshop as a warm-up activity.
- Create an icebreaker game with the writing prompts, where one student tells a story aloud, and two others act it out.
- Use this with a buddy class to encourage teamwork and communication.
Do you have some super creative students? Give them access to blank writing strips provided on the last page of this resource, and let them create their own prompts! Pro tip: You might want to have a ‘draft’ jar so you can proof the prompts. Kids’ imaginations, ya know? 😳 🙈
