A Sequence Puzzle Students Won’t “Run Away” From!

This sequence puzzle is a great way to combine literature and mathematics. Students will practise both fine motor and numeracy skills as they cut out the puzzle pieces and enjoy sequencing numbers 1 – 10, revealing a picture of the gingerbread man and a hungry fox.

This sequence puzzle works well in guided groups, stations, or as independent practise. We have provided it in two formats so you can choose how to use it in your classroom.

  • Solved: Use this version if you would like your students to colour the picture before cutting it apart and mixing the numbers up.
  • Unsolved: Use this version if you are mainly interested in this activity as a number sequencing and small motor exercise.

Number Sequence Puzzles Increase Engagement

Students love learning maths through engaging games, puzzles, and activities. Research shows that these approaches are effective at building not only maths skills but also social skills. Luckily, we have many resources in those categories here on Teach Starter to make it easy to “gamify” learning! Many of them can be used for years if prepared in the right way.

To prepare this or any of our number sequence puzzles for longevity, follow these steps:

  1. Print the solved version of the sequence puzzle on cardboard.
  2. Colour the puzzle in.
  3. Laminate the puzzle.
  4. Cut the pieces apart.
  5. Put the pieces in a container and add this activity to a maths station for your students to enjoy for years.
