Practise addition and subtraction to 10 facts using concrete materials with these modelling mats.
Addition and Subtraction to 10 with a Valuable Hands-On Component
The use of concrete materials (otherwise known as manipulatives) is an essential component of any early years learning program. These addition and subtraction modelling mats allow your students to represent each sum difference using the concrete materials available in your classroom, such as counters or play-dough.
How to Read, Make and Solve Addition and Subtraction Facts to 10 Using Modelling Mats
- Students choose a number sentence card and place it in the ‘Read It’ section of the template.
- Students use concrete materials to model the fact in the ‘Make It’ section.
- Students use a whiteboard marker to write the number sentence and the answer in the boxes in the ‘Solve It’ section.
- Repeat the process for additional facts.

Print on thick card for added durability, and laminate the modelling mats so students can write and wipe the facts at the bottom of each mat. Or why not slip the modelling mat inside a write-and-wipe sleeve instead! It is less work for you and much better for the environment.
Please note: the addition and subtraction sets are separate downloads. If you’d like both, be sure to download each file individually.
