Think Critically About Additive and Multiplicative Patterns

This two-page additive and multiplicative patterns worksheet provides an engaging way for students to explore number patterns through a ‘This’ or ‘That’ format. Students are presented with two input/output tables and must decide which one meets a specific condition, then justify their choice in complete sentences. This activity encourages critical thinking, pattern recognition and effective communication of mathematical reasoning. The final section challenges students to create their own input/output tables and develop a matching question, reinforcing their understanding of the concepts.

This additive and multiplicative patterns worksheet will ask students to:

  • Identify the table showing an additive relationship
  • Identify the table showing a multiplicative relationship
  • Identify which table fits a specific ordered pair
  • Identify which table would house a specific missing value
