Sort the Adverb Phrases!

If your students are learning to identify and categorise adverb groups/phrases, they’ll love this hands-on sorting game! This download pack includes teacher directions, 5 sorting headings, 28 matching cards and an answer key.

Through this activity, students will show their ability to understand how adverb groups/phrases work in different ways to provide circumstantial details about an activity.

To Play Adverbial Phrases Sort:

Give each student a sentence card.

Allow students time to find the adverbial phrase on their game card.

Place the When? Where? How? How long? How Often? headings on the floor of the classroom or on a whiteboard accessible to the students.

Students then take turns reading out their card and placing it under the correct heading.

Check answers on the teacher answer sheet.

How to Set up This Adverbs Game:

Use the dropdown icon on the Download button to choose between the Google Slides or PDF versions of this resource.

Print on cardboard for extra durability. Cut the headings and sentence cards out.

You may wish to keep the pieces in a plastic sleeve or folder for easy access and storage.
