Celebrate Authors Who Inspire

Great authors have the ability to transport us into new worlds through the creation of rich characters and compelling storylines. These authors capture our hearts and minds… as we read their books, we grow as people and are inspired to take on new challenges.

This speechwriting task requires students to write and present an informative and descriptive speech about an author who inspires them. They must consider and explain why their chosen author (and the stories they write) inspires them more than others! Students are required to plan, draft and rehearse their speech before presenting it to the class.

Students are prompted to consider the following when researching their chosen author.

  • Who is the author, and what types of stories do they write?
  • What are some interesting facts about this author?
  • What do you find inspiring about this author and/or the stories they write?
  • What impact has this author and/or their stories had on you and other readers?

  • Student instructions
  • Research graphic organiser
  • 2 x speechwriting templates (one with fewer writing lines, one with more writing lines)
