How is the Cartesian Plane Used Today? 

It’s normal for students to ask why they should learn a particular skill. Luckily, you’ll have no problem answering this question, as the Cartesian plane has many real-world applications. It is widely used in a number of fields, including: 

  • Robotics:  Robots use the Cartesian plane to navigate and perform tasks in a defined space.
  • Engineering: Engineers use it to model new inventions and tell some of them how to move. 
  • Architecture: Architects use the plane to draw up building and floor plans. 
  • Game Development: Understanding the Cartesian plane is essential when programming characters to move. 
  • Data Visualization: Important data is easily displayed on the coordinate system. 
  • Geography: Geographers and cartographers rely on the plane to create maps and analyze the environment.

Learning how to plot coordinates and interpret information on a Cartesian plane can be a stepping stone to a career in a variety of specialty areas!
