Reinforce science vocabulary with a free energy and electricity crossword puzzle.

Energy and Electricity Worksheet

Do your students know the different forms of energy? You may have taught them the acronym ‘MELTS’ as a way to remember the different types: mechanical, electrical, light, thermal and sound. Teach Starter has created a crossword puzzle to help your students with vocabulary terms associated with forms of energy and electricity.

The resource includes a word bank, but if you wish to challenge your students a bit, consider using the editable version and removing the vocabulary terms. The worksheet includes 9 definitions and vocabulary terms, including those such as:

  • energy
  • mechanical
  • insulator
  • thermal
  • and more!

An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

  • Guided science groups
  • Lesson warm-up
  • Lesson wrap-up
  • Fast finishers
  • Homework assignment
  • Whole-class review (via smartboard)

If students need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to create a comic or infographic using the words from the crossword puzzle.

For students who need additional support, encourage students to reference previous assignments, posters, or anchor charts. This activity can also be completed in a small group or one-on-one setting.

Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.

Turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity by printing it on thick card and slipping it into a dry erase sleeve. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker and then erase and reuse them.
