The Kings Coronation Activity for Young Students

Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to teach your students about the King’s Coronation? Why not get them to think about what they would do if they were the King or Queen with this cute write-and-craft activity?

Before giving this activity to your students, explain the role of a King or Queen as the rulers of a monarchy. Brainstorm what their role may entail and what are some things that past Kings and Queens have done for their community. This can then give your students some ideas of what they may write on this fun writing task.

Please note: Learning about the coronation of King Charles III and other events connected to the British Royal Family can be triggering to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people groups, due to the ongoing trauma faced since the point of colonisation.

King Charles III will begin his reign with growing pressure to honour treaties with First Nations People and repair some of the damage caused by the process of colonisation. These resources aim to share information on King Charles III’s life and the coronation ceremony traditions.

Learning About the New Monarch

As the King is the constitutional monarch of Australia, learning about the monarchy can provide children with an understanding of their country’s system of government and its history. Children will gain an understanding of the following:

  • Australia as a constitutional monarchy
  • Historical significance
  • National identity
  • International relations

✂️ Give Them the (Safety) Scissors

This template makes for a bonus cutting skills activity, depending on your students’ ages and abilities.

With adult supervision, cutting skills help students work multiple muscle groups and their brains, plus:

  • strengthen finger and hand muscles
  • build dexterity and fine motor skills
  • improve hand-eye coordination
  • develop focus and attention.

And all of these skills are necessary to use a pencil and a fork; button a shirt and tie shoes; write, type and swipe.

Scissor skills are brain and muscle skills!
