Help your students determine the difference between a learned behaviour and an instinct with a thought-provoking sorting activity.
Teaching About Instincts and Learned Behaviours? We Can Help!
Dive into the world of animal behaviours and traits with new Teach Starter Resources! We’ve been busy building new tools and printable resources to help your year 5-6 students distinguish between behaviours that are hardwired from birth (instincts) and those acquired through experiences and teachings (learned behaviours). Our printable resources are easy to use, meticulously reviewed, and created by teachers just like you!
Read & Sort to Identify Learned Behaviours and Instincts
Designed with the Year 5-6 curriculum in mind, our sorting activity seamlessly blends into your classroom life science lessons. This printable resource included 24 scenario cards depicting an instinct or a learned animal behaviour. Students will read each scenario and sort them onto the correct sorting mat to demonstrate understanding.
Students are prompted to think critically about the origins of behaviours by evaluating and sorting scenarios, encouraging them to closely analyse and discuss each scenario with peers.
