Scenario-Based Positive Self-Talk Prompts

Looking for more resources to use during your Health lessons? If so, this one is a must-have! This 18-page digital teaching resource provides situations that are relevant to children as prompts for them to consider their responses. Working through these prompts one at a time, or as an entire lesson, helps students realise their strengths and positive qualities, even in times of challenge or adversity.

Why is Positive Self-Talk an Important Skill for Students to Develop?

Teaching children scenario-based positive self-talk strategies is crucial in building a healthy self-concept. As children work in other subject areas to develop their knowledge and cognition, positive self-talk helps them build a constructive thought process. By introducing scenario-based strategies, they learn to navigate different situations and challenges with a positive mindset.

Positive self-talk can contribute to effective emotional regulation. Children face various emotions in different scenarios, and teaching them how to respond positively to these emotions can help them manage stress, anxiety and frustration effectively.

Learning to approach socially or emotionally challenging situations with positive self-talk equips kids with valuable skills and attitudes that contribute to a healthy self-concept, enabling them to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and optimism.

How to Use This Digital SEL Resource in Your Classroom

Project a slide on the screen and have your students write their responses inside their Health books. These slides work well when used:

  • as daily warm-ups,
  • as exit tickets to your HPE lessons, or
  • anytime you feel your class needs a quick “pick-me-up”!

Slide #18 is editable and can be copied multiple times to create your own scenarios or prompts to suit your current classroom needs.

Really frustrating to be paying for premium resources, but be locked out of simple task cards because they're arbitrarily categorised as "teaching slides". These should be in the Essentials plan.
