King Charles III Coronation Emblem Meaning for Kids
Use this research project to explore the meaning behind the emblem picked for King Charles III Coronation Emblem. This project provides your students with a small amount of information; however, you may like to have them do their research. This is an excellent opportunity to explore Internet Research Skills with your students. There are some graphic organisers included in this download, including:
- Interesting facts about the Emblem – students record four interesting facts they have learnt along the way.
- Scavenger Hunt – students look closely at the emblem and go on a hunt to list all the objects or symbols they can find in the emblem.
After your students understand what an emblem is and how it is created, they can create their very own emblem.
Please note: Learning about the coronation of King Charles III and other events connected to the British Royal Family can be triggering to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people groups, due to the ongoing trauma faced since the point of colonisation.
King Charles III will begin his reign with growing pressure to honour treaties with First Nations People and repair some of the damage caused by the process of colonisation. These resources aim to share information on King Charles III’s life and the coronation ceremony traditions.
Design Your Own Emblem Project
Let your students’ creative juices flow and get them planning out their very own emblem. On the planning sheet, students are invited to list down some of the following topics:
- Colours that represent them and why.
- Shapes that represent them and why.
- Objects that represent them and why.
- Their values as an individual.
- Their Beliefs as an individual.
- Achievements.
After this planning, students can choose between a variety of shapes to then sketch out their emblem. After they have completed this project they spend time reflecting using the reflection prompts on the final page.
