One Manipulative, Many Benefits

Base ten blocks are a fantastic tool for young mathematicians as they provide a visual way to understand foundational math concepts. Here are several examples of what base ten blocks can do for your students:

  • Build Number Sense: Using base ten blocks allows students to explore and understand the relationships between numbers.
  • Understand Place Value: Base ten blocks provide concrete representations of ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands, facilitating deeper understanding.
  • Model Number Operations: Students can physically combine or separate blocks to model addition and subtraction problems, reinforcing these concepts.
  • Engage Students: The physical and interactive nature of base ten blocks makes math more engaging and less abstract.
