Coordinating Conjunctions Craft: Create a “Burger Stack” Compound Sentence!

Make learning about coordinating conjunctions hands‑on and memorable with this fun, food‑themed craft activity! Students build their own “Burger Stack” by selecting two related clauses and choosing the correct coordinating conjunction to join them. As they assemble their stacked burger, learners practice forming compound sentences while strengthening fine motor skills and sentence‑level grammar.

Through this activity, students explore how two independent clauses can be connected using a coordinating conjunction to form a compound sentence. As they choose clauses and match them with the correct joining word, they reinforce their understanding of how for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so create meaningful links between ideas.

Here’s why teachers download this resource:

  • Reinforces core grammar skills
  • Provides a hands‑on, visual way to understand sentence structure
  • Offers opportunities for differentiation
  • Makes an engaging display for the classroom
  • Encourages student ownership and creativity

Whether used as a lesson hook, consolidation task, or revision activity, this burger‑themed conjunction craft helps students make meaningful connections between ideas — one sentence at a time!

What’s Included in this Linking Coordinating Conjunctions Craft

Students will have access to:

  • Clause strips (e.g., He plays ball…, The cat is black…, I like to run…)
  • Conjunction pieces (for, and, nor, because, or, yet, so)
  • Printable burger components to cut, assemble, and decorate
  • Clear visual instructions guiding them through each step of the craft

How to Complete the Coordinating Conjunctions Burger Stack Craft

Students follow the illustrated instructions to:

  1. Choose a pair of clauses that work together to form a compound sentence.
  2. Identify the correct coordinating conjunction that links the ideas.
  3. Cut out the burger pieces, including their clauses and chosen conjunction.
  4. Assemble the burger, stacking the pieces in the correct order to create a complete compound sentence.
  5. Decorate their burger craft for display or as part of their writing journals.

This step‑by‑step process supports both comprehension and creativity.
