Help children learn how the environment affects those that live in a specific area with a sorting activity.
The Effects of Physical Location…What?
Kindergarten standards can sometimes be so vague. Take the effects of the environment on people for example. This seems like a strange and abstract concept to teach five-year-olds, and sadly, it often gets overlooked. However, we’re here to help you drop a bit of Social Studies back into your daily routine with engaging sorts and activities designed to engage kids and spark important conversations.
This printable is designed to help young learners learn about how the climate in an area affects the people that live there. They will look at photographs and images from different climates, and sort modes of transportation, clothing, housing, and leisure activities into matching categories.
To play, lay out the climate sorting mats. They will then sort the objects shown on the cards into the climate from which they originate.
Through this activity, students will discover how the climate in an area affects the people who live there, including their choices of clothing, housing, and recreation. It makes a perfect introduction to a weather unit for kindergarten.
