Map Elements Matching Game – Elementary Geography Lesson
Enhance your geography lessons in elementary grades with a map elements matching game. This game is designed to be played as a Concentration or Go Fish! Game. Students will match terms, images, and descriptions of different elements commonly found on maps.
What Are the Different Elements on a Map?
The elements of a map included in this resource are as follows:
- Map title
- Compass rose
- Legend
- Map key
- Scale
- Latitude and longitude
This activity will guide students to discover
- What do you call the part of a map that tells direction?
- What are the parts of a map?
- What part of the map shows distance?
- Which map part tells the user what the map symbols stand for?
- What does a compass rose look like?
- What are the lines on a map called?
For students who need extra support, use this matching game as an intervention activity or with a guided small group.
A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Resource
Print the cards double-sided. This allows for each card to have both a front and back. Cut apart the cards and place them in an envelope for easy storage.
Additionally, project the cards onto a screen using a document camera and have your students write their answers on a whiteboard.
