Highlight your classroom learning targets with printable 'I Can' Statements for lower primary students.
Print Your Own ‘I Can’ Statement Display – In Two Formats!
This set of ‘I can’ statements is designed to help students develop literacy skills. The statements help students to reflect upon their work and become more responsible for their own learning. We have included two easy-to-use formats for you to choose from, depending on how you’d like to display them. The options are as follows:
- Checklist Format – This is an easy-to-use checklist for you to use to mark or make a note of when certain ‘I Can’ Statements have been used or met. It makes the perfect insert for your lesson plan book or serves as a planning tool that you can copy/paste from when writing your lesson plans.
- Word Wall Format—This format features almost ninety ‘I Can’ Statements that you can display on the board when introducing or reminding students of the weekly learning targets.
‘I can’ statements are available for:
- reading
- comprehension
- writing
- speaking and listening.
Print, laminate, and attach a small magnetic strip to the back of the cards so they can be stuck on your classroom whiteboard. Blank cards are also included for personalised ‘I can’ statements.
How to use this resource:
- Use the ‘I can’ statements as weekly classroom goals. Once the class has achieved their ‘I can’ statement, stick all of the statements on a display board as a reminder of the goals they have achieved.
- Use the ‘I can’ statements during small group activities. Each group will have an ‘I can’ statement they are working towards.
- Print out sets of the ‘I can’ statements to be used for individual students. Stick their own ‘I can’ statement on their desk, to remind them of what they are working towards in literacy.
