This 28-slide teaching presentation has been created by our experienced teacher team to familiarize your students with prepositions of place, time and direction using clear explanations, engaging visuals and interactive elements.
The slides provide an overview of each preposition type, then show how these prepositions work in the context of real sentences. After each preposition type is introduced, numerous review slides allow students to demonstrate their understanding of what they have just been taught.
This prepositions Powerpoint can be downloaded as a Google Slides file. Be sure to use the file in slideshow mode, as the presentation does include some simple animations.
Extending This PowerPoint Presentation on Prepositions
This slide deck makes an excellent starting point when it comes to teaching your students about prepositions of place, time and direction. You may wish to cover the content over several lessons, choosing to focus on one preposition type per lesson.
Looking for some activity ideas for your students to complete after they have engaged with the PowerPoint? Here are some suggestions you might like to consider:
- Human Prepositions – Use students as props! Assign one student as an object (e.g. a chair) and another as a person who must follow preposition instructions (e.g. “Sit beside the chair.”).
- Silly Preposition Story – Sit students in a circle. Say the start of a funny story (e.g. “The clown went to the beach in the morning.”) Each student must add a sentence that includes a preposition to the story. Continue around the room.
- Preposition Classroom Hunt – Say a preposition aloud (e.g. under), then have students find classroom objects that match each preposition and explain the position of the objects in a sentence (e.g. “The book is under the table.”)
