Promote student self-assessment of reading skills with a R.E.A.L. Reading Self-Assessment Rubric.
Student Self Assessment Creates R.E.A.L. Readers!
Student self-assessment is a great way to inspire your students to become better readers. When students assess their own reading, they become more involved in their learning and get a better idea of what they’re good at and what they need to work on. It also enables them to set goals, keep track of how they’re doing, and take control of their learning. Self-assessment allows children to get better at thinking about what they read and managing their own education. It also teaches them to keep pushing, even when things are tough, and to be proud of what they’ve learned.

- Expression – Use of expression when reading
- Accuracy – Percent of text read without errors
- Learning – Overall comprehension of text
