Solve the Riddles With Addition and Subtraction

Why did the math book look sad?
Because it had too many problems!

If your students enjoy jokes and riddles, this resource is a great way to make math practice more engaging. This addition and subtraction riddles pack blends problem solving with humor to keep students motivated and focused.

Created by our teacher team, this resource includes a set of four worksheets:

  • Two addition riddle worksheets.
  • Two subtraction riddle worksheets.

Each worksheet contains 10 one‑ and two‑digit addition or subtraction problems, followed by a riddle at the bottom of the page. After solving each problem, students use the number‑letter key to match their correct answers to letters that reveal the riddle’s punchline. This setup encourages accuracy, persistence, and excitement as students work toward solving the riddle.

An answer key is included to make grading quick and stress‑free.
