Help Students Unit Fraction Knowledge Bloom – Unit Fraction Flowers

This resource has been created by a teacher to help students understand the different visual representations of the following unit fractions: halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, eighths and tenths. This resource is easily differentiated to suit your students capabilities and what they have been taught. The template is completely versatile from a complete flower that students need to glue the unit fraction examples onto each petal. Or, a completely blank flower template with the different sections that students need to create from scratch.

Create a garden of unit fractions as a classroom display with your students’ completed flowers. This will form a fantastic visual reminder for students about what they have learnt.

How to Differentiate this Unit Fraction Craft Template

Here are a list of different ways you can differentiate this unit fraction flower template:

  1. Only provide students with one or two unit fraction flowers to begin with – for example just halves and quarters.
  2. Utilize the full flower template with each unit fraction in word form in the middle so students only need to match up the visual image for each petal.
  3. For students who are quite capable with this topic – provide all of the different flowers and get them to sort them – this can be done individually or as a small group.
  4. Have students write the unit fraction representation on the flower as well.
  5. To extend students, have them draw their own representation of each unit fraction on the petals rather than using the provided examples.
