Verb Group Safari: Hunt for Action Words!

Are you exploring verbs and verb groups with your students? This set of five verb worksheets are a great addition to your teaching and learning of verbs within the classroom. Each worksheet contains 8 simple sentences that students need to read and then underline the verb and supporting words, or the noun groups.

What are verb groups?

A verb group is a group of words that work together to describe an action or state. It usually has the main verb and other words that help give more information about the action.

Are you looking for more ways to teach verb groups to your students? Here are some simple yet effective additional ideas using this set of worksheets to help:

• Using the answer sheets in this resource – cut out the verbs and helping verbs and have students match them up.
• Once completed, students pick a verb from one of the sentences on the sheet and play charades and the class needs to guess the action verb and helping verb.
• Cut each sentence on the answer sheet out and get students to build out the sentences using the correct verbs and helping verbs.
